So You Wanna Fight – Video Producer/Director/Editor – April 2012
what about the new fights in november when will they be posted?
Nate, sorry about the late response. I just got an email notifying me of your comment. I thought about this for a while and figured I would give you, and anyone else who may want to read this, my full response. When I filmed the event in April 2012, it as an unpaid gig. I paid for the 3 camera men and crew member. I also produced and edited it myself. It took 80+ hours to edit, but I really enjoyed it. I’m a fan, I didn’t mind the time it took at all. However, my goal was to get donations to reimburse the costs, thus be able to film again… well I know how the web works, if people are already watching something for free, why pay for it….and I ending up, getting…..wait for it….. zero donations….lol…none, nada. Again, I get the web, and I am not too bummed abut getting no donations, but that made it so I couldn’t film/produce again.
But now I am thinking and maybe I could start a kickstarter.com profile. If I get enough donations ahead of time to cover production, I can film it again. I don’t know if people would be receptive to that. Although you can see the fights I filmed previously, so you know the quality of video your donating to, and how it would come out. hmmm? But again, I don’t know if people would be receptive to that.
Anywayz…long story longer. I think the promoters of SYWF film every event anyway with one camera. So if you go to their main site, soyouwannafight.com, you may see past events. You will at least be able to email them and ask them about it… and BTW….. tell them you want me back…lol
In general, to anyone who got this far in the post, I want to say thanks for all the support from everyone I met. What a bunch of great people. And the ring girls….. well there part of the show. ;’)
All the fights will be available within this one playlist on this page.
You guys rock!! Can’t wait for my fight tobe on there!!
Tom Rowles is the MAN!!! This is great!! Trying to get all friends to donate.
Cody, Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m glad I could make professional videos that all the fighters can use to promote themselves. As far as donations… Unfortunately, no one has donated as of yet. I was only hoping for enough cash to reimburse my costs. If I could do that, I would film like this again. I’ve been told, If I don’t come back and film, then for the next event there will only be a single camera from one corner. The kicker is… if every fighter who watched a whole fight, donated a couple bucks, we could do it again. LOL But no worries, I am a fan and glad to do it for free…. once…lol
Thanks again for the positive comments!!!
I just went to my first So You Wanna Fight event this past weekend in Trinidad, Ca. I couldn’t have been more disappointed. As a fan of mma, I found this event to be an overall embarrassment to the sport.
The first problem was the lack of security and safety of both fighter and fans. The event was very poorly organized with one fight called last minute, resulting in the wrong fighter’s name announced. So the guy that they wanted to fight came out unprepared. Changes were made so often leading up to the fight that made it near impossible for the fighters to game plan. The most important being combining light heavy and heavy weight classes. A lot of the fighters were dropping weight to qualify for light heavy and then were notified of the change after losing as much as 60 pounds. The second problem was the lack of modesty among the “ring girls”. Their dresses didn’t cover their plastic parts, nor did they attempt to cover their vaginas, yes vaginas as some of them entered and exited the ring. Where is the class? Although this event was 21 and over I do not understand why the promoter would seek women that had the appearance of a drugged out prostitute willing to expose her genitalia to the crowd. As the night went on, their outfits become worse as did their behavior.
I would advice anyone who is serious about fighting to stay as far away from these events or your career may start and end here. The comments above regarding the quality of video maybe the only positive thing this promotor has going for him. Although, I’d much rather not have to see the prostitutes in HD. If you decide to go as a spectator, bring hand sanitizer and antibiotics.
I heard theres gonna be a DJ that night, i know for a fact that that certain DJ doesnt even like MMA,what a poser
